High Adventures and Global Outdoors Learning at #SummitBechtelReserve / World Scout Jamboree / Dr. Jose G. Lepervanche / @ScoutmasterJose

2019 24th World Scout Jamboree started this week at SummitBechtelReserve in West Virginia, USA. This #NorthAmerica #ScoutJamboree is unique for two reasons. It has been organized by Scouts Canada #ScoutsCanada, Boy Scouts of America #ScoutsUSA and  Asociación de Scouts de México #ScoutsMexico in a very well team effort of seven years.

Another unique fact is that this #ScoutJamboree is located on a state-of-the-art high adventures sustainable camp built in the mountains of West Virginia to host BSA National Jamborees, Advanced Training Courses, High Adventures activities, 2019 World Scout Jamboree and 2023 Interamerican Scout Jamboree.

“The World Scout Jamboree is above all an educational event that brings together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills.” Read more in 2019WSJ website. More than 45,000 scouts from more than 160 countries are carrying the legacy of Lord Baden-Powell.

The #ScoutJamboree and #SummitBechtelReserve offers unique opportunities for high adventures outdoors learning experiences. This is a sampler of some of the outdoors areas we discovered while attending the first ever BSA National Scout Jamboree here in 2013. All these areas are available for #JamboreeScouts during 2019 World Scout Jamboree.

The Sustainability Treehouse.

One connection with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. #Scouts4SDGs

From the developer’s website:

The Treehouse provides dynamic educational and gathering spaces for exploring and understanding the site and ecosystem at the levels of ground, tree canopy, and sky. The towering Corten steel frame elevates visitors to extraordinary vantages and provides an armature for green building systems, such as photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, and a large cistern and water cleansing system. Interactive exhibits showcase and celebrate sustainable technologies. Overall, the Treehouse captures the wonder of childhood exploration and places environmental education at the forefront of meaningful experiences and camp messages for thousands of annual visitors to take home.
